ESTP Publication Award 2017

The ESTP presents its publication award 2017 and 500 EUR prize to

Dr. Nikolai Klymiuk
and
Dr. Frank Seeliger

Drs. Klymiuk and Seeliger are awarded for their publication entitled "Tailored Pig Models for Preclinical Efficacy and Safety Testing of Targeted Therapies"(1).

The authors describe an animal model that may bridge the gap between mouse models and proof of clinical efficacy for human diseases like Duchenne muscular dystrophy and cystic fibrosis. Pig models reproduce the hallmarks of the human disease more faithfully than rodents and are thought to be better suited to develop gene therapy strategies.

This publication presents a very thorough review of these new animal models which are very promising for R&D in pharmaceutical industry.
